Dear Parents and Carers,
The governing body of your school has two vacancies for parent governors and is looking for parents who have children on roll full-time at the school to fulfil this vital strategic role. We are looking for parents who have the skills required to contribute to effective governance and the success of the school.
Parents should have received nomination information and relevant details by email on 7th June. Please contact the school office if you did not receive your email. For queries about the role, the process or to discuss the vacancies out of interest, please feel free to get in touch with Mr Gray or Mrs Crossland, or any member of the governing body - details of whom can be found in the "Our Governors" tab in the "School Community" section of this website.
Chuter Ede 1 - 4 Muskham.
Having secured their place at the top of the Newark Small Schools League, it was a pleasure to coach the children in the Cup Semi Final away at Chuter Ede on Thursday afternoon. The children all behaved impeccably and played some superb passing football against a strong Chuter Ede side.
It was a tight first half in which Muskham took the lead through Manny, only to be pegged back just before half time. The boys really raised their game in the second half and further goals followed from Josh, Lucas and Freddie. The score line could easily have been more but for some fine saves from the Chuter Ede goalkeeper.
So a massive well done to Tom, Jake, Sam, Josh, Lucas, Jacob, Freddie and Manny. Onwards and upwards to the Final !!

International Basketball star Jamell Anderson visits Muskham
A year ago, Dan C and Xander (now Class 6), suggested a basketball club be set up for our school. As a result, we have been working closely with Andy Coe, coach at Newark Tornadoes, which has led to many highlights this year including numerous high profile victories against other schools’ long-established teams. The dual highlight at the tail end of the season was an impressive 22 – 30 victory against Tuxford Primary Academy, followed by a visit from Leicester Riders, Team England and Great Britain senior Jamell Anderson.
At 6’8”, Jamell is certainly built for basketball! He spent an hour each coaching children who attended the school basketball club in Years 5 and 6 this year and answered many intelligent questions in assembly at the end of the day. Many autographs were received – including on most of the children’s play time basketballs! This was a superb opportunity for all of our pupils to meet a really inspirational sports personality – and a dream come true for those children who follow basketball closely. Thanks to Andy for organising the event, to Mrs Marvin for her “behind the scenes” support for our basketballers, and to Dan and Xander for starting Muskham’s basketball fixation!
Muskham are the winners of the County Show School Art Competition! Many thanks to Mrs Best who created a design that could feature many layers built up by representatives from each class. The judges really liked the complex painting techniques and the depth created. Our prize is to have our artwork and school logo on show for EVERY event at the Newark Showground between now and the County Show in 2017! Well done to our talented pupils.
Congratulations to our school basketball team who concluded their entire season’s unbeaten run with a 14-2 victory over Abbey Gates Primary on Wednesday, taking the school league’s top spot.
2016 is the first time the school has had a basketball team so to make such an incredible debut is a huge credit to the talent of our pupils on the team. Thanks to our coach, Andy Coe, and to Mrs Marvin for co-ordinating the team’s admin.
We are all very proud of the team’s achievements!
Also, congratulations to Dan and Tom (Class 6) who represented the Nottinghamshire County Basketball Team in the regional tournament this month. Dan excelled in his first captaincy of the team, bringing Nottinghamshire to the top-spot as the region’s number one scorer. Tom also showed his excellent skills as the third top-scorer in Nottinghamshire’s team. The boys beat Northants and Leicestershire in the group round, and claimed victory over Derbyshire in the finals.
In the summer term, Dan and Tom will be assisting with Basketball Club on a Friday afternoon – if you got a place you’ll be enjoying coaching from our school’s champion pair!
Everyone looked very sporty last Monday and we all took part in a lot of physical activity for Sports Relief. We walked a mile around North Muskham, raced teachers on the field, enjoyed team games indoors and out and wore special wristbands to show our support. The total raised for charity (including sponsorships and wrist-band sales) was an amazing £895.50! We can feel very proud when we say that our school community works together to support people who aren’t as lucky as we are. What a superb achievement for our community – thank you!
Congratulations to the Netball Team who have now reached the end of the Newark League season. After 8 wins, 2 draws and 6 losses, the team finished a confident 7th out of 17 teams. Special mention goes to Evie M (Class 6) who has received the most nominations for “Fair Player” and is the league’s chosen school winner for 2016. Our thanks to Mrs Davies and Mrs Fryer for giving up their own time to coach the team.

On Thursday the whole school walked round to the crossing at South Muskham to see the historic "Flying Scotsman" on its journey from London to York.
Being part of such a huge public event was a great experience for the children and we were delighted that we could take part at a such a local level. The Newark Advertiser ran a detailed piece which also includes an interview with our very own Steven from Class 6! You can see the online article here.
I was particularly proud to receive an inbox full of praise for our staff and pupils from members of the public following the event. To be able to take over 180 under-12s out and receive comments such as those below is a real testament to the high standards our staff and children have; well done to absolutely everyone.
I was at South Muskham today for Flying Scotsman and found myself surrounded by your wonderful teachers and kids! The kids were an absolute credit to the school and I enjoyed talking to both staff and kids who asked some wonderful questions about the train, photography and.... well all manner of train related things.
We were very impressed by the behaviour of the pupils as they waited for the train, and also by the care taken by the staff to ensure that the pupils did not accidentally knock our steps.
The children were a credit to the school. The thought of that many children did for a while, fill me with worry as the younger ones may get bored, but they did as they were told when asked to do anything by those in charge of them.
