A young carer is anyone between the ages of 5 and 24 who:
- provides care, assistance or support to someone else in the family – this could be mum or dad but also a brother, sister, grandparent or other relative
- carries out significant or substantial caring tasks and has a level of responsibility you would usually expect an adult to have. This could include things such as practical or emotional support, help to manage someone's behaviour, support to 'keep an eye' on someone.
