International Basketball star Jamell Anderson visits Muskham
A year ago, Dan C and Xander (now Class 6), suggested a basketball club be set up for our school. As a result, we have been working closely with Andy Coe, coach at Newark Tornadoes, which has led to many highlights this year including numerous high profile victories against other schools’ long-established teams. The dual highlight at the tail end of the season was an impressive 22 – 30 victory against Tuxford Primary Academy, followed by a visit from Leicester Riders, Team England and Great Britain senior Jamell Anderson.
At 6’8”, Jamell is certainly built for basketball! He spent an hour each coaching children who attended the school basketball club in Years 5 and 6 this year and answered many intelligent questions in assembly at the end of the day. Many autographs were received – including on most of the children’s play time basketballs! This was a superb opportunity for all of our pupils to meet a really inspirational sports personality – and a dream come true for those children who follow basketball closely. Thanks to Andy for organising the event, to Mrs Marvin for her “behind the scenes” support for our basketballers, and to Dan and Xander for starting Muskham’s basketball fixation!
