Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today celebrated World Poetry Day. During this morning's assembly, each class performed a poem that they had studied and rehearsed throughout the week.
As part of British Science Week, each class has learnt about the amazing achievements of different scientists.
Today, the whole school has considered the idea of ‘change and adaption’. The children have used different scientific enquiring skills to analyse data, test theories and solve problems.
We really do have some budding scientists!
Year 4 and 5 enjoyed sharing the story of the English Civil War with the whole school and parents today. They presented confidently and clearly; we are very proud of them.
What an amazing day we had! The children and staff arrived at school dressed as a character from a book; there was a fabulous range of different costumes worn. Also, children were invited to decorate a potato as a book character. Again, there was an impressive selection of potato creations that were showcased in our assembly. After much deliberation, three winners were chosen across the school.
Throughout the day, each class enjoyed different activities based upon a book, which they shared in our special whole school assembly. As part of the day’s activities, children from the younger classes enjoyed reading with children from older classes.
MEG (Muskham Events Group) have a number of exciting events planned throughout Spring & Summer.
MEG are a small group of staff and parents organising events and fundraising activities for the school and are always looking for people to join them.
Today, Year 4/5 enjoyed their trip to the National Civil War Museum. They learnt about what caused the English Civil War, acting out key events. Then, they were guided around the historic sites of Newark, thinking about why Newark was known as the 'key to the North'. Throughout the day, they had opportunities to handle artefacts, try on costumes and find out about what life would have been like for the people of Newark during that time.
On Monday, Class 6 visited the National Justice Museum in Nottingham as part of their learning in History about crime and punishment through the ages.
In the morning, they participated in a court activity, where they adopted the various roles of a court room: a judge, jury, barristers, solicitors, usher, clerk and witnesses. Eventually, the jury found the defendant 'not guilty'!
In the afternoon, we toured the museum's prison, venturing down to the dungeons. We met the prison's Jailor and Matron, who were very strict! After this, we adopted the role of detectives, as we aimed to solve a crime on the Narrow Marsh - unfortunately, the lack of evidence meant the crime was unsolvable.
As part of our topic about North and South America, Year 4/5 spent the day learning more about Mexico. They enjoyed taking part in quizzes, researching and presenting information to the class and cooking a Mexican dish (enchiladas).
Over the last week, Class 6 have been using Siegfried Sassoon's poem 'How to Die' to create their own poems. During Wednesday's KS2 assembly, the children participated in a poetry recital. Each poem conveyed powerful messages and images about the war. Well done, Class 6.
Class 6 had a spectacular day on Wednesday when they travelled back in time to the 1940’s. We dressed up and participated in many wartime activities such as: learning the National Anthem; preparing vegetable turnovers using rationed ingredients; dancing to the Lindy Hop and singing wartime classics like ‘It’s a Long Long Way to Tipperary’. Throughout the day, we experienced air and gas raids; we had to wear our gas masks and take shelter until it was safe. We had a fantastic time celebrating the end of a brilliant topic.
