Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today, we had the M&M Theatre Company in school to perform 'Robin Hood'. Children from all year groups enjoyed the performance - they found it highly amusing and entertaining!
"It was very upbeat. They made children laugh from all year groups and added in songs that everyone knew and could sing along to." (Ryley)
"Robin Hood was so funny - I couldn't stop laughing at it! The acting was amazing and they almost made it feel real, even for the older children. Another thing I loved was the costume changes because they were so quick." (Natalie)
"I thought the performance was very funny and got everyone involved. There were only 4 cast members but they played 2 parts each. The play included modern music that you could join in with. Even though it was funny, it still clearly told the story of Robin Hood." (Freya)
Class 6 were fortunate enough to receive some CPR training from the Newark First Aid team. They spent the afternoon learning about how to assess the casualty and how to perform CPR whilst waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
Last year the area outside Year One's classroom was looking tired and overgrown with plants so we decided to build a sensory garden. All the children were involved in the planning and then many of them, with the help of their parents, cleared and prepped the site.
Alongside this, the whole school entered a local art competition held by Frosts Nurseries.
Olivia Brightmore, in Year 3, won the competition winning £500 worth of plants for the school and an Easter egg: both were presented to her by Mr Robert Jenrick.
Using this money and funds raised through school events, we built our garden. Mr Shorrock, Mr Allan, Mr Pickering, Mrs Hill and Mr Ford were key to its success, donating their time and resources to help us to build the best garden possible.
The mural incorporates the aptitudes that we encourage in our school vision through the ‘Enablers’ which are six SuperOwls: they represent Independence, Optimism, Creativity, Perseverance, Empathy and Questioning.
We hope you enjoy sitting in our peaceful and inspiring area which has captivated all our interests. Mr Robert Jenrick certainly did, when he officially opened the garden.
Thank you to the whole school community for working so hard on this project.
We celebrated STEM day with gusto!
The Foundation Unit made slime, and using coca-cola they made a huge explosion which made everyone laugh.
Year 1 were Development Scientists for the day. Firstly they had to do some market research on different perfumes and then they developed their own using a range of very interesting ingredients. They even designed some expensive-looking bottles to hold their perfumes. Watch out for these in the shops everyone!
Year 2 investigated how to keep divers warm. For this, they had to make sure they developed a fair test using some very sophisticated scientific equipment. They were stunned to find that bubble wrap was the best insulator.
Year 3 investigated how light reflected on different materials and applied their knowledge to design some very cool and effective school bags.
Year 4 had to be particularly brave as they found a range of minibeasts and then analysed them. By the end of the day the children had become quite attached to their new friends!
Year 5 investigated a crime. To do this they had to analyse finger prints, hair and handwriting; they also performed a fluid analysis on clothes. All the clues led them to Miss Saxelby, who we will be watching very carefully from now on.
Year 6 Investigated balloons: how to inflate and deflate using different temperatures of water and coca-cola. They also investigated how to place pins into balloons without making them pop. In our assembly they looked like magicians!
