Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Enterprise
Throughout June, Class 6 took part in the Virgin Money Enterprise challenge. In groups, they had to come up with a product, make it, advertise it and sell it. As a class, they raised £208.74! With the money, they got the bus into Newark and went bowling (complete with a slushie!)
Today we have been developing our ability to be optimistic and practising our skills in independence, concentrating on the theme of the environment. The whole school examined how we can be more environmentally friendly by recycling, re-using and living differently; this involved recreating certain types of materials and designing structures which could help the environment to be safer and healthier.
Foundation looked at Under the Sea and made stunning pieces of art by re-using milk bottle tops and vegetable nets.
Yr 1 discussed how to live a more environmentally-friendly life and designed and made a bin which separates recyclable from non-recyclable materials
Yr 2 re-used plastic items from the bin by making items such as a small greenhouse, a timer and even clothes!
Year 3 focused on the damaging effects of deforestation. Reading the book, ‘Imagine you are an orang-utan’, they wrote creative and empathetic descriptions of life in the rainforest, and created art inspired by the illustrations.
Yr 4 undertook an audit of the use of single- use plastics in school. This led to the children writing a letter to the Headteacher with suggestions on how we can improve!
Yr 5 investigated why birds eat plastic instead of food, and created biodegradable alternatives to plastic using food.
Yr 6 examined their carbon footprint and how to reduce it. They researched the Chernobyl disaster and its effects, designing a new cover for the nuclear plant.
A hugely fun day, developing our optimism and independence whilst learning to live in a way that will benefit all.
We ended the last half term on a bright, colourful and creative note with an Easter Bonnet Parade and Decorate an Egg competition. The children in Foundation and Key Stage 1 decorated a variety of hats on an Easter and Spring theme and they all looked fantastic as they paraded around the school hall. Key Stage 2 children also put on their ‘creative hats’ by decorating eggs in original and imaginative ways with some using television and nursery rhyme characters for inspiration. A prize could have been given to each entrant but winners had to be chosen and an Easter egg was awarded to the best in each class.

Stem and Red Nose Day
The school was filled with red scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians today.
F2 planted seeds in different conditions and learnt all about the cycle of a butterfly accompanied with the making of beautiful, symmetrical butterflies out of pipe cleaners and beads.
Year 1 investigated magnetism and designed magnetic heroes. We were enthralled when their powers were demonstrated in assembly. The school were also mesmerised when Thomas became a robot in assembly and Bobby gave him commands. It was certainly performed with precision!
Year 2 became ship builders and actually tested different types of paper for making the best pirate ship. The ship’s strength was of course tested using pirate gold!
Year 3 explored the density of different liquids and discovered that oil was less dense then food colouring and water. Their demonstration of this in assembly caused us all to gasp!
Year 4 had the gruesome job of finding how much plaque existed on their teeth. They even classified the different plaque! They have become experts on where to concentrate their brushing and how to do it.
Year 5 designed ‘Mars Landers’. Marshmallows became astronauts and Year 5 had to take great care to design a craft which would protect them when landing. They also launched a rocket which unfortunately landed on the school roof!
Year 6 made electromagnets, passing electricity through a wire and around a nail. The class competed to design the strongest electromagnet. The winning electromagnet picked up 57 paperclips!
What a fun day!
Today was World Book Day. Everybody looked wonderful dressed up as their favourite book character! The children spent the day doing lots of different entertaining and engaging activities about books and authors in their classes.

This year, the theme for Anti-Bullying Week was 'Choose Respect'. There was an assembly in school linked to this theme and the children participated in discussions during their 'Circle Time'.
The homework task was to create an anti-bullying poster and the ideas from each class were very creative and thought-provoking. We will be displaying some of these posters around school to ensure that children continue to think about this important issue. Please find some examples of the posters below.
