Yesterday, some of our Year 6 children visited the polling station at the community centre. They looked at a ballot paper before watching the voting process first hand.
In the school hall, we held a 'mini election', where all children voted for the issues that they would focus on if they were in a position of power. The children demonstrated of Democracy and Individual Liberty. The results were revealed in assemblies this morning.
On Wednesday 26th June, Classes 5 and 6 began their two-night residential at Kingswood in the Peak District. The children had an excellent, adventurous three days where they took part in a range of activities: rafting, ziplining and archery, to name a few. We enjoyed some delicious meals and even squeezed in a campfire and mini Olympics! A fun time was certainly had by all. Everyone pushed themselves further than they anticipated and we even had a few children who conquered their fears!
This morning, Class 6 presented Key Stage 2 with an assembly, following their visit to the Mansfield Recovery Facility last week. The children explained how materials in Nottinghamshire are recycled and which items can be recycled, such as specific types of plastic. Their assembly also consisted of some quiz questions. Children in KS2 are now 'waste warriors'!
KS2 made us proud during their Sports Day today, showing perseverance and optimism. All children took part in a carousel of activities, before competing in individual races. Well done to the Red Team for scoring the most points and winning the trophy 🏆
On Monday, Class 6 ran their 'Enterprise' event after school. The children have been working very hard on their products and services throughout the summer term. The event was highly successful, with the children raising an incredible £379 - well done, Class 6! Thank you to everyone who supported the children with their stalls.
Today, Class 6 visited the Mansfield Recovery Facility. We were able to tour the facility to learn what happens to recycled waste and what the materials recovered are used for. We also learnt about the importance of recycling and the impact on the environment. We are very keen to share our learning with pupils and parents; over the next few weeks we will be working hard to inform others about the items that can and cannot be recycled.
Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed Safety Awareness Day at Sconce and Devon Park. They learnt about fire safety in the home; water safety; CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation);the importance of wearing seatbelts and how to be responsible citizens in the local community.
Year 5 enjoyed using the new iPads to make films, sharing their observations of the butterfly lifecycle.
An enormous well done to Class 6, who have undertaken their SATs this week. The children's attitudes have been outstanding; they have worked incredibly hard and have maintained an extremely positive outlook throughout the week. We are extremely proud of them.
Well done to Class 6, who graduated with flying colours from the DAaRT (Drugs, Alcohol and Resilience Training) programme. During their graduation ceremony, they shared their key learning with parents and carers; all the children were exceptionally knowledgeable and confident. They acted out scenes, demonstrating how to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations and even performed some raps! Well done, Class 6 - we are very proud of you.
